Charitable Education Aids

Nurture future generations can ensure the sustainability of the business and the society. Lee Kum Kee is thus particularly keen to support education development. Over the years, Lee Kum Kee has made donations for the establishment of schools in China and provides them continuous support.

    • Donation of Lee Shiu Nan Memorial School in Zhuhai
    • In 1989, Mr. Lee Man Tat made donation to build Lee Shiu Nan Memorial School in Nan Shui where oyster sauce was invented, in memory of his late father. The school was opened in 1990 and has since received continuous support from Lee Kum Kee.

      Mr. Lee Man Tat donated towards the installation of the Cultural Wall in the School in 2014, in hope of reinforcing the relationship between Lee Kum Kee and Nanshui and facilitating students to familiarise with the School's history and culture as well as the concept of "Si Li Ji Ren" (Considering Others' Interests).

    • Donation of Lee Man Tat Secondary School in Xinhui
    • In 1997, Lee Kum Kee donated towards the building of Lee Man Tat Secondary School in Xinhui, supporting educational development and nurturing talents in its hometown. A gymnasium and a swimming pool were built in 2004 for the School in commemoration of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Man Tat’s 50th wedding anniversary. Lee Kum Kee also plays an active role in the School Management Committee for school development planning. Over the years, Lee Man Tat Secondary School has developed rapidly and achieved high teaching quality and outstanding student performance; as such, in 2013 the school was upgraded to direct management by Xinhui District education authority. At the same time, Lee Kum Kee further donated towards the building of teacher and student residence halls for enhancing the qualities of teaching and schooling facilities, marking an important stage of the school’s development. The building of the two new residence halls would facilitate the implementation of its “Five-year Plan”, which aimed at reinforcing the qualities of teachers, students and school infrastructure, and achieving the objective of the school becoming a full boarding school.

    • Donation of Lee Man Tat Bio-Medical Science Library in Tsinghua University
    • In 2003, in support of the training of medical practitioners and medical science researchers in China, Lee Kum Kee made donation to Tsinghua University to build the Lee Man Tat Bio-Medical Science Library. The library was opened in 2006 and has since played an active role in nurturing high-level medical scientists. Group Chairman Mr. Lee Man Tat was also appointed Advisory Professor of Tsinghua University and invited to give a lecture to share his insights on “Considering Others’ Interests”, harmony in family, and the emergence of ethnic Chinese enterprise.

      In 2014, Mr. Lee Man Tat signed a memorandum with Tsignhua University to transform the "Lee Man Tat Bio-Medical Science Library" into the "Lee Man Tat Bio-Medical Science Research Centre" as a world-leading protein research platform for international research and talent development.

    • Donation of Lee Kum Kee Philanthropy School in Sichuan
    • In 2009, Lee Kum Kee made donation to establish Lee Kum Kee Philanthropy School in Pingwu, Mianyang, Sichuan to help children from the earthquake-stricken areas get back to school. The school was officially opened in 2011. A team of over 20 volunteers from Lee Kum Kee also joined the opening ceremony to show their care to students and present them with 1,000 love and care messages from staff around the world. In 2013, Lee Kum Kee volunteers provided learning materials for the students and celebrated Children's Day with them.

    • Establishment of “Lee Kum Kee Hope as Chef” Project
    • Since 2011, Lee Kum Kee has launched the "Hope as Chef" programme in helping youths in poverty-stricken rural areas who wish to become chefs, and fully subsidises them to enter national key vocational high schools in Beijing and Chengdu to learn Chinese cooking skills. By 2015, over RMB 10 million has been invested in Hope as Chef, benefitting some 350 aspiring youngsters with passion for Chinese cooking in China. The first two batches of students joined the catering industry in major cities in China after graduation in 2014 and 2015, contributing towards the development of the Chinese culinary industry.

      Lee Kum Kee made further donations to set up Lee Kum Kee Corporate Scholarship in four key vocational education institutes in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu respectively, as tokens of encouragement to diligent students to enhance their professional knowledge and skills.

    • Establishment of “Lee Kum Kee Aeronautics Scholarship”
    • In 2013, Lee Kum Kee and China Space Foundation jointly set up and launched the "Lee Kum Kee Aeronautics Scholarship" at Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The Scholarship will be granted over a period of 3 years, with 30 students receiving the award each year to, to support them to realise their cosmic dreams and thus nurture more talents for the Chinese space industry.
